Build literacy and language skills with a live retelling of classic and modern tales in the planetarium. Blink engages toddlers and their caretakers with drop-in, educator-led programs on Thursdays from September to May. Best for ages 5 and under; siblings welcome. Included with museum admission.
Join NASA Solar System Ambassadors in the planetarium for a live program highlighting the latest in space news. Hear and see updates on current space missions and find out what’s currently visible in the night sky. After the program, stay for interactive activities and discover new astronomy resources. $8 non-members/$6 members. Tickets include museum admission.
Stargazing at Home is a blog that brings space and astronomy news to you. Each entry will discuss a particular NASA program or spacecraft, followed by a list of some objects in the night sky to see during that month.
The planetarium is part of many school group offerings October through May.
First Fridays – Rapid Space Shorts
These quick planetarium experiences range from constellation tours of the night sky and cruising around the solar system to learning about light and the aurora borealis. Free; ticket required and available at the front desk.
Live in the Planetarium
Artists and musicians team up to perform music and light experiences live. These programs are designed specifically for the Thomas Planetarium. Occurs at 7:30 p.m. Fridays once a month in June, July and August. Space is limited, tickets required. $15 admission, members receive a 10% discount. Please use 7th Avenue entrance.
Immerse yourself in Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, or Wish You Were Here. These full-dome music and light show expands on the classic albums through captivating HD graphics. Not a typical laser show, but the next generation of computer-generated imagery.
Be transported by mood-altering art and 3D graphics choreographed to Led Zeppelin’s biggest hits. This immersive experience plays out on the museum’s full-dome planetarium screen in concert with a state-of-the-art sound system.
Saturday Morning Cartoons in the Planetarium
Watch Saturday morning cartoons exploring art, history, culture, and science in the planetarium. These immersive, full-dome programs change monthly, occurring Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. from October to April.
Museum members get access to special programming throughout the year, as well as first look at the Planetarium's newest shows.
