Alaska Literary Field Guide

Join us in the museum auditorium to enjoy art, poetry and ecology in celebration of Alaska’s wildlife and wild places. Creators featured in the new Alaska Literary Field Guide will share stories, poems and artwork about all beings great and small, from Alaska’s tiny hibernating wood frog to the majestic polar bear, the dainty but deadly monkshood and the iconic king salmon. 

Free. Books will be available for sale and signing. 
  
About the Book 
Alaska Literary Field Guide is a celebration of Alaska’s wild beauty, blending science, storytelling and artwork. This anthology brings together a diverse range of the state’s most respected contemporary poets and writers alongside original, full-color artwork from 19 Alaskan visual artists. A natural history collection like no other, Alaska Literary Field Guide is both an artistic tribute and an invitation to connect with the land, water, wildlife and spirit of the 49th state. 
  
About the Speakers
Marybeth Holleman is the author of the novel “Bloom Again,” the poetry collection “tender gravity,” and the memoir “The Heart of the Sound.” She co-authored “Among Wolves” with wolf biologist Gordon Haber and co-edited “Crosscurrents North,” an anthology of Alaska prose and poetry. marybethholleman.com

Nancy Lord is a former Alaska State Writer Laureate (2008–2010) and the author of three short story collections, a novel, and five books of literary nonfiction. Her environmental writing has appeared widely in journals and anthologies. She has taught creative writing at the University of Alaska and currently teaches science writing for Johns Hopkins University. writernancylord.com
