(Sold Out) Anchorage Museum Book Club: The Cruelest Miles
4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21
Experience stories of the North through a different kind of book club - one where the setting is the gallery itself. The Anchorage Museum Book Club meets quarterly to read and reflect on books that deepen our understanding of the Circumpolar North. Each selection connects to the museum’s exhibitions or collections, and each discussion takes place in the gallery most aligned with the book’s themes.
This free, public program is open to anyone—no need to attend every session, just register for the dates that interest you. Space is limited to 15 participants per meeting. While we don’t serve snacks (we’re in the galleries), each discussion includes a mini-tour of related objects led by museum staff, making the experience uniquely tied to place.
In “The Cruelest Miles,” learn the true story of the diphtheria epidemic that struck Nome in 1925, and the heroic men and dogs that saved the day.
Recommended for adults. Included with admission; registration required.
Need a copy of the book? Check out the Anchorage Museum Store or visit the Anchorage Public Library. Museum members receive their usual 10% discount on book purchases in the Museum Store.
Upcoming selections include:
- The Firecracker Boys (Apr. 11)
