Join Yup’ik mask carver David John Angaiak for a beginner-friendly, three-day workshop focused on traditional maskette carving. Learn hand-carving techniques, natural earth pigment use, and the cultural history of mask-making from a Yup’ik perspective. Each participant will create a maskette inspired by traditional Yup’ik design. While especially relevant for Alaska Native participants, the class is open to all. Registration required.
$60 materials fee (scholarships available—email programs@anchoragemuseum.org). Attendance at all three sessions is required.
Supported by the Alaska Native Arts Foundation, The CIRI Foundation, and the Curating Indigenous Circumpolar Cultural Sovereignty program.
