About the Fish Creek Indigenous Place Names Celebration
Celebrating the unveiling of the new Fish Creek Plaza and Indigenous Place Name sign, completed salmon costumes will be worn during a community procession along the creek. The event honors the Dena'ina name Ch'atanaltsegh ("yellow water comes out") and celebrates the connections between people, place, language, and the Fish Creek watershed through art, music, and community. More than a dedication ceremony, this celebration invites the community to experience Fish Creek through Dena’ina language, culture and shared stewardship.

Organizing partners include the Anchorage Park Foundation, Anchorage Museum, Huddle, Pamyua, Great Land Trust, Anchorage Concert Association and SALT. Support is provided by the Rasmuson Foundation, Alaska Native Heritage Center, Native Village of Eklutna and the Mellon Foundation. Developed in cooperation with the Indigenous Place Names Movement Advisory Group.
