Author Talk: Doug Vandegraft
6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, July 17
When author Doug Vandegraft moved to Alaska in 1983 after graduating college, he found himself in the wild-west style bar scene in Anchorage. Nearly two decades later, he officially began conducting research on Alaskan bars and found them to be every bit as unique as the stories told about them.
Hear Vandegraft talk about his book, A Guide to the Notorious Bars of Alaska, which details the rich history and atmosphere of remarkable, one-of-a-kind Alaskan bars, some of which have been around since the end of Prohibition in 1933. These historic establishments have become legendary in their communities and beyond as places to socialize, meet friends, and come in from the cold.
Hosted in conjunction with Everyday Anchorage: Duke Russell & Ward Wells, on view on the fourth floor, and Tricksters and Sourdoughs: Humor and Identity in Alaska, on view on the second floor in the Northern Narratives gallery.
