In Context: Post-secondary Education and the Professional Sphere from an Asian Pacific Islander perspective

Join us on May 1 to learn about Tammalivis Salanoa’s experiences as a member of the Asian/Pacific Islander-American community on the intersection of culture, post-secondary education, and professional life. This event will encompass a talk in the first half, and lei-making in the second half. A recording of the talk will be available for viewing after the event. Included with admission but registration is required. Capacity is limited.

Tammalivis Salanoa (she/her) hails from the United States island territory of American Samoa, where she became immersed in her culture and experienced firsthand the Fa’a Samoa way of life in respecting the land, community and family. She left American Samoa when she was 8 years old to pursue a future in Alaska. Tammalivis excelled in academics and extracurricular activities. Through these various opportunities, she found her passion and love for art, fashion, and design; graduating from the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) with a bachelor’s degree in digital art and design. Tammalivis currently works full-time as a Program Assistant for the federally funded program TRIO Student Support Services at UAA and frequently collaborates with the Polynesian Association of Alaska (PAOA), the Rasmuson Foundation, and other community partners.

In Context is a Museum program in which experts provide context for the history, art, science and culture of Alaska and the North. Free; registration required.
