Experience stories of the North through a different kind of book club, one where the setting is the gallery itself. The Anchorage Museum Book Club meets quarterly to read and reflect on books that deepen our understanding of the Circumpolar North. Each selection connects to museum exhibitions or collections, and each discussion takes place in the gallery most aligned with the book’s themes.
This public program is open to anyone; no need to attend every session, just register for the dates that interest you. Each discussion includes a mini-tour of related objects led by museum staff, making the experience especially tied to place.
This month’s selection is “This is Chance!: The Great Alaska Earthquake, Genie Chance, and the Shattered City She Held Together” by Jon Mooallem. “This is Chance!” tells the story of Genie Chance, an Anchorage radio reporter, who worked tirelessly to broadcast information during the aftermath of the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964. Recommended for adults.
