Slow Craft Week Kick-off: Craft in America
6:15 p.m. doors; 7 p.m. program. Tuesday, Jan. 27
From stitchwork and knitting to letterpress and repair sessions, there is something for all in Slow Craft Week. In connection with Handwork 2026, Slow Craft Week is part of a year-long national initiative by Craft in America to showcase the importance of the handmade, both throughout our history and in contemporary life.
Kick off Slow Craft Week in a gathering with fellow handwork enthusiasts and Alaska Public Media to watch NORTH’s “Craft in America,” followed by a curated selection of Indie Alaska short documentaries. Join in conversation with fellow creatives in a celebration of craft and Alaskan makers.
NORTH investigates the impact of the environment on craft artists. Indigenous canoe practices, reclaimed materials, a craft school in the forest, and more demonstrate how natural and urban landscapes inspire the handmade. Featured Indie Alaska episodes will highlight Alaskan makers and ideas.
