Climate Cafe: Elders of Time — A Film and Conversation with Jonathon Keats
Noon. Friday, Sept. 4
Join us for a special screening of Elders of Time, an award-winning short documentary by Justin Oliphant and Shannon Breen following artist Jonathon Keats’s decade-long quest to develop clocks and calendars calibrated by the growth of bristlecone pine trees.
Developed in collaboration with the Long Now Foundation and the Nevada Museum of Art, Keats’s artwork asks what happens when we measure time through the natural world rather than by the clock. The project opens a conversation about how we understand our place in time, what it means to think beyond a human lifespan and how creative practice can help us imagine across generations.
Following the screening, Keats joins Museum staff for a conversation about the project, the creative possibilities of long-term thinking and what it means to engage with environmental change across generations. Free.
