Learn about The Battle of Dutch Harbor and the Kiska Blitz during this docent-led gallery talk. In June 1942 the Imperial Japanese Navy conducted carrier air strikes on Unalaska and seized the islands of Attu and Kiska in the Western Aleutian Islands. Later that same month, the U.S. Army 11th Air Force, in conjunction with US Navy Patrol Wing IV, conducted an aerial counterattack to destroy Japanese efforts on Kiska. This was one the first examples of joint operations on the unit level for the U.S. Army Air Forces and U.S. Naval Aviation. Free.
