Art making starts from your garden harvest in this two-day workshop. Learn about dyeing cellulose or protein fibers using a wide variety of common kitchen items, such as onion skins, avocado pits, beets, turmeric, pomegranate, coffee/tea, carrot tops, rhubarb, fennel, red cabbage, and black beans. Using common Alaska grown foods (namely blueberries, carrot tops, rhubarb, and red cabbage) participants will discover the vibrant pinks, purples, and blues contained within these plants and dye a provided fabric tote bag. Led over two sessions by artist instructor Cecilia Karoly-Lister, participants will take home their naturally dyed creations. Materials provided. Space is limited; registration required. $20 Materials fee.
