The S.O.Summit responds to a present-future shaped by overlapping emergencies and emerging possibilities for adaptation, preparedness, and action. Designed as a convening and laboratory, it brings together people working across art, climate, research, and community practice.
Over two days, invited guests consider emergency preparedness amid increasing environmental, social, and infrastructural uncertainty. The summit foregrounds socially engaged art as a way to imagine, rehearse, and build cooperative models for the common good. It expands prevailing approaches to emergency preparedness by considering how artists and community-based practices contribute alongside more established planning and response efforts.
$30 one-day, $45 two-days. Free for students and faculty, must provide University of Alaska or APU ID at check-in.
This initiative builds on the Anchorage Museum’s longstanding place-based work around a changing world and collective action and is made possible, in part, by support from the Terra Foundation for American Art.
