David Brame
David Brame is an artist and comic illustrator originally from South Carolina currently based in Homer, Alaska. Brame holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati, where he was a Yates Fellow. He has taught art at the university level in both Canada and the United States and developed comic-based curricula for school age children.
Creating work rooted in Afrofuturist traditions, Brame often collaborates with other Black writers and creatives to envision worlds that make space for a multiplicity of Black futures. Recent projects include a 36-page comic inspired by the first Black superhero, titled Lion Man 1 as well as After the Rain, an adaptation of Nnedi Okorafor’s On the Road. Brame’s work has been shown at museums and galleries across the US, including at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art as part of Before Yesterday We Could Fly: An Afrofuturist Period Room. He is the recipient of an Eisner Award for his work on After the Rain.
