Statement of Solidarity with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color

THE ANCHORAGE MUSEUM BOARD STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH BLACK, INDIGENOUS, AND PEOPLE OF COLOR

We stand in solidarity with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. We stand against discrimination, oppression, and the mistreatment of all people of color.

As an institution that promotes a vibrant community by examining who we are as a people through arts, history, and culture, we stand by our values and speak out against structural racism that discriminates and devalues anyone. A community cannot thrive when any of its people are disenfranchised and discriminated against.

This museum works toward creating an equitable, just, and inclusive Anchorage. In that role, we have a distinct and important part to play – to confront the legacies of systemic oppression and speak out against them.

We commit to do this important work through arts and conversations, alongside museum staff and community members, calling out the historical and contemporary causes of racial disparities, challenging the biased narratives perpetuated through popular culture, and expanding perspectives to understand the other.
