    International Astronomy Day 2019

This event has ended. It was scheduled for 5/11/2019.

    1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11; 1 to 4 p.m. activities; 4 to 5 p.m. presentation

Gather for International Astronomy Day to celebrate astronomy and the universe through hands-on experiences, planetarium programs and lectures. Observe the sun with a solar telescope, imagine life on an exoplanet and experience spacecraft mission in a new way through augmented reality. This year's theme is the Moon as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing. The Anchorage Museum partners with NASA Solar System Ambassadors, the University of Alaska Anchorage's Planetarium & Visualization Theater, and UAA's Chemistry Club to share knowledge and hands-on astronomy activities. At 4 p.m. meet UAA's Planetarium & Visualization Theater manager Omega Smith, who will reflect on the Apollo program and importance of future lunar exploration. Included with admission. Planetarium programs half price.
