Stewardship

Use this booklet with 4^th-12^th grade students to learn about stewardship and how it is integral to the Dena’ina culture. Objects and images from the museum’s collection illustrate the Dena’ina people’s strong connection to place. Activity prompts ask students to reflect on their relationship to and observations of the natural world.

Topics include Dena’ina bird hunting, salmon fishing, bear hunting, potlatching, and place names.

This booklet was developed in partnership with Anchorage Outdoor School. This residential, place-based outdoor education program for 5th grade students takes place on the traditional homelands of the Dena’ina people.
