Anchorage Museum 2018 Summer Camp Schedule
From robotics and dinosaurs to art, engineering and more, the Anchorage Museum has a camp topic to suit nearly every 7- to 12-year-old’s interest. Designed to foster imagination and experimentation in art, science and technology, campers learn, play and create through exploring museum objects and resources under the guidance of trained educators.
Weeklong sessions run Monday through Friday June 4–29 and July 9–20. Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with drop-off as early as 8 a.m. and pick-up as late as 4 p.m. Download chronological camp schedule by age.
Explore It: Growth
Investigate the ideas of growth in the North during this weeklong camp for curious scientists. Explore the growth behind things both large and small, from mountains and glaciers to plants and bacteria. Discover how people in Alaska and the North have used plants in the past and how plants are used today, then create works of art inspired by the findings. The week culminates with a presentation of the campers’ creations. $300, members receive 10 percent off.

Engineer It: Alaska
Do you have what it takes to engineer the North? Campers investigate how engineering has been a part of Alaska both in the past and present by visiting the galleries and exploring some of the many types of engineering including structure building, circuitry and robotics. The week culminates with a presentation of the campers’ engineering feats. $300, members receive 10 percent off.

Explore It: Everyday Science
Become a scientist for a week – look closely, ask questions and experiment while collecting real data and contributing to research about Alaska. Explore weather, sound, water and other monitoring projects that can be done at the museum and in your own backyard. Campers see how citizen science projects can connect them to the science community while enhancing their understanding and appreciation of the world around them. The week culminates with a presentation of the campers’ research and experiments. $300, members receive 10 percent off.

Explore It: Dinosaurs
Travel back to a time where dinosaurs roamed Alaska. Explore the Cruisin’ the Fossil Coastline exhibition to learn about dinosaurs and ancient animals of Alaska’s past. Campers discover what it takes to be a paleontologist, decipher fossil clues and create an Alaskan dinosaur or ancient animal inspired by their discoveries. The week culminates with a presentation of the campers’ creations. $300, members receive 10 percent off.

Robot It: Museum Take-Over
Robots are taking over the museum…are you ready? Explore the Anchorage Museum’s exhibitions including Cruisin’ the Fossil Coastline, the Alaska Exhibition and more to design and create your own robot built for the space. Will your robot resemble one of Alaska’s dinosaurs? Will it survive the harsh weather of the North? The possibilities are endless. Campers program and build with LEGO MINDSTORMS (no experience necessary). The week culminates with a demonstration of the campers’ Museum-Bots in action. $300, members receive 10 percent discount

Create It: Art of the North
Ready to become an artist of the North? Campers take inspiration from art in the Anchorage Museum for hands-on experience with different art mediums and styles through artist-led projects. Textiles, painting and sculpture are just a few of the art forms campers investigate. Local artist Amy Meissner, whose solo exhibition Inheritance: memory. makers. myth. is now on view, will lead one workshop.The week culminates with a presentation of the campers’ creations. $300, members receive 10 percent off.

Explore It: Last Frontiers
Take on the challenges of the last frontiers. Investigate the last frontiers of Alaska, the deep sea and space in this weeklong camp. Dive into sea and space exploration through the planetarium, learn about what it takes to thrive in these harsh environments and tackle the terrain using LEGO MINDSTORMS robotics (no experience necessary). The week culminates with a presentation of the campers’ frontier adventures. $300, members receive 10 percent off.
