Wells Fargo Free Day: Welcoming Anchorage
Exhibitions, events and activities to engage the whole family

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Sept. 20, 2017 – General admission to the Anchorage Museum is free from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, thanks to Wells Fargo. Visitors can enjoy a myriad of activities and exhibitions, including the museum’s newest additions, the re-envisioned Alaska exhibition as well as the Art of the North Galleries in the new wing. Bridge Builders of Anchorage will be hosting Anchorage’s 2017 Welcoming Anchorage Community Celebration on the museum lawn. Additionally, museum attendees may also take part in some Design Weekend Anchorage events that are free and open to the public, such as the Design Fair.
Saturday Schedule of Free Events and Exhibitions
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Exhibitions on view include: Cruisin’ the Fossil Coastline in the first floor galleries; Neighbors in the Northern Narratives east gallery second floor; Ephemeral State in the Arctic Gallery second floor west; Alaska exhibition, second floor east; Art of the North, new wing off second floor; Living Our Cultures, Sharing Our Heritage: The First Peoples of Alaska in the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center, seconf floor west; Discovery Center, first floor east and Spark!Lab, first floor east.
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Design Fair in the museum atrium features more than 20 vendors representing artists, designers and architects showcasing innovation and design ideas and products.
1 to 3 p.m. Welcoming Anchorage Community Celebration on the museum lawn will feature booths hosting and representing many of Anchorage’s cultural groups.
2 p.m. Discovery Center Science Lab. Ask questions, make predictions and conduct experiments at the hands-on Exploration Station.
2 to 3:05 p.m. Free Film: “Sailing A Sinking Sea” in the museum auditorium. This 2015 Olivia O Wyatt film explores the Moken people’s mythology, language and relationships with the sea, spanning from Indonesia to Myanmar.
4 p.m. Discovery Center Science Lab. Ask questions, make predictions and conduct experiments at the hands-on Exploration Station.
3 to 6 p.m. B Street Festival, part of Design Weekend Anchorage, takes place between 5th and 6th Avenues on B Street. Enjoy design interventions, food, music and beverages. Free admission, food and drinks for purchase.
For an additional fee of $4 to $6 (10 percent discount for members) per program, museum patrons can explore astronomy, the northern lights and Alaska wildlife in the Thomas Planetarium. Shows begin at 10:30 a.m., with the last show starting at 4:30 p.m.
