Celebrate International Museum Day at the Anchorage Museum with free admission, music and more

The Anchorage Museum celebrates International Museum Day and Art Museum Day, annual worldwide events acknowledging the importance of museums, with music, activities and more Wednesday, May 18.
Museum visitors are invited to join the celebration, and let the world know why they think museums matter. Visitors can share their love of museums on social media using the hashtag #MuseumDay while participating in various activities throughout the day and enter a drawing to win 10,000 Alaska Airline miles courtesy of GCI. General museum admission is free all day thanks to Wells Fargo.
On May 18, Snapchat will showcase #ArtMuseumDay and the variety of special activities and offerings provided by participating member museums, including the Anchorage Museum. International Museum Day will be featured on Snapchat as one of its “Live Stories,” enabling users to share their experiences and to see how others around the world are celebrating Art Museum Day.
International Museum Day and Art Museum Day are organized by the International Council of Museums and the Association of Art Museum Directors, respectively.
Wednesday, May 18, at the Anchorage Museum
- 8 to 10 a.m. Music, donuts and coffee on the Anchorage Museum lawn in conjunction with Bike to Work Day (bike station opens at 7:30 a.m.)
- 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. free admission to the museum thanks to Wells Fargo with various activities throughout the day
- 4:30 to 6 p.m. Food trucks and music on the lawn (bike station opens at 4 p.m.)
The Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center is the largest museum in Alaska and one of the top 10 most visited attractions in the state.
