Anchorage Museum receives $50,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has awarded the Anchorage Museum a $50,000 NEA Art Works grant to support the museum’s Northern Initiative.
The multi-year Northern Initiative project is bringing together artists, scientists, historians, anthropologists and community leaders to address the challenges of living in the North and to develop creative solutions. The project also includes exhibitions and public events designed to spark conversation and bring forth new ideas.
So far, the Northern Initiative has included the “True North” contemporary art exhibition and the Next North Symposium.
This week the NEA committed $26.3 million to fund 817 projects, chosen from 1,547 applications. Art Works grants support the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, with emphasis on projects that promote public engagement with art, lifelong learning in the arts, and strengthening of communities through the arts.
