Anchorage Museum publications win American Association of Museums awards
The American Association of Museums (AAM) has recognized the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center for excellence in marketing and public relations materials.
AAM selected the Anchorage Museum as a winner of its 2011 Publication Design Competition. Within the category of institutions with budgets greater than $750,000, judges awarded Honorable Mentions in the categories of Marketing/Public Relations Materials and Newsletters for the museum’s “Museum…and more” ad series, “Andy Warhol: Manufactured” ad series, Solo Exhibition ad series and “Pure Experience” tourism ad series (grouped in one award category), and for its Anchorage Museum Today newsletter. Recognized for their work on the projects are Anchorage graphic designers Lucian Childs and Rachel Gebauer. The winning collateral materials reflect the museum’s new branding, which was developed by Pyramid Communications.
“It’s an interesting challenge to convey who you are as an institution in your communication materials,” said Janet Asaro, Anchorage Museum Director of Marketing and Public Relations. “We re-branded the museum when we expanded in 2009 in the hopes of letting all in our community know that they can both learn and have fun in a vibrant museum. We’re honored to receive this recognition from our peers.”
AAM (www.aam-us.org) recognizes and encourages excellence in museum publications through the Museum Publications Design Competition, the only national, juried competition of its kind. Winners arechosen for their overall design excellence, creativity and ability to express an institution’s personality, mission or special features. The panel of judges includes graphic designers, museum professionals and publishers.
