20th annual juried crafts fair kicks off holiday season at Anchorage Museum
November 18, 2008
The Anchorage Museum presents its 20th annual Crafts Weekend and the 16th annual ReadAlaska Book Fair 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28 and 29, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30.
As Anchorage’s only juried holiday crafts show, Crafts Weekend features the best work by Alaska artisans. There are no mass-manufactured ceramic Santas or poorly made tchotchkes to wade through, just authentic, handmade art to put under the tree.
Visitors may browse through jewelry and wearable art, pottery, ornaments, glass and metal work and more.
Crafts Weekend runs in conjunction with the 16th Annual ReadAlaska Book Fair, which features Alaska publishers, authors and illustrators selling their work on the museum’s second floor.
The weekend’s festive atmosphere includes live music by local musicians, door prizes from the Anchorage Museum Shop and specialty food tables.
On Friday, museum members who renew their membership or purchase a gift membership receive a lovely gift.
The Anchorage Museum Shop features new work by Alaska Native artists on Sunday.
Admission is free. A portion of event sales supports museum programs and exhibits. For more information, call 343-6195.
