"Exploring the Transit of Venus"
Dec. 9 at 7 p.m., Museum Auditorium
The transit of Venus across the face of the sun has mobilized the governments of Europe, altered the course of wars, led to important nutritional discoveries, and ultimately led to the exploration of the Alaska coast. Join Jeff Medkeff, former Sky & Telescope Magazine editor and asteroid discoverer, for a talk about this rare celestial phenomenon, the far-reaching impact it has had on history and culture, and an insider's account of the recent Barrow expedition to observe it. This free event is sponsored by the Chugach Stargazer Society and takes place in the Museum's Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9. For more information, call 343-4326.
