Rarefied Light, organized by the Alaska Photographic Center, annually showcases the best of Alaska’s fine art photography. For this year’s exhibition juror Joyce Tenneson of Maine selected 55 photographs by artists from Barrow to Kodiak.
Homer artist Linda Smogor won Best of Show for Sadie, a photograph printed in archival ink on canvas. Her image was chosen from 500 submissions by 69 Alaska artists. Honorable Mentions were given to Anchorage artists Linda Infante Lyons, Javid Kamali, Tami Phelps, Gary Postlethwait and Vanessa Powell.
“Alaska is not just rich in natural beauty, it is rich in photographers who are passionate about their craft,” Tenneson said. “When we photograph from an authentic place in our being, the work resonates with that energy, and speaks to a wide audience.”
The exhibition will be exhibited concurrently Dec. 7-30 at Bear Gallery in Fairbanks and Jan. 11-March 6 at Kenai Peninsula College in Soldotna.
