Man looking out over the lead in an umiak
Whale hunting in Point Hope is still done in traditional umiaks, boats made from wood and bearded sealskin. The men spend weeks on the ice during whaling. This scene was shot after the first whale of the year was caught and butchered. The man looking out over the lead is catching a much needed rest.
