As part of the North x North Reimagined Festival, visit the lawn of the Anchorage Museum from Monday night, September 14 through the night of Sunday, September 20, to view Haustoria, a light and sound installation by artist Annie Mitchell. As an interdisciplinary artist, Annie Mitchell’s practice involves sculpture, digital processes and audiovisual brainwave entrainment, Mitchell is interested in the role nature plays in human thriving and creates altered experiences in natural environments that bring humans into a meditative state of mind. Her work is also based on the aesthetics and behavior of fungi, and parasitic fungi have specialized tips called haustoria, which penetrate the cell walls of plants and tissues of other organisms in order to obtain nutrients. The Haustoria installation on the lawn offers a shelter or refuge from the surrounding urban environment. A project of SEED Lab.
