Boxing win for Team Alaska, 1974
The Arctic Winter Games began in 1970 with the express goal of allowing athletes from the Circumpolar North to compete against their international peers. The first Games were held in Yellowknife and included athletes from Alaska and Canada’s Northwest Territories and Yukon. Boxing was a featured sport in the Games in 1970 and 1974. Today’s Games include Dene and Inuit sports, basketball, mushing, and curling.
