The museum curates conversations as much as we curate exhibitions. During the next two years, while the U.S. chairs the Arctic Council, we will host conversations on issues important to the circumpolar North as part of our Think Up Here series.
3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 14
In response to the exhibition Arctic Ambitions: Captain Cook and the Northwest Passage Sonya Kelliher-Combs curates a conversation on representation that will touch on issues such as capturing identity, photography, the idea of a romantic noble savage, otherness, and cultural voyeurism. Participants in the conversation will include James Luna, Larry McNeil, Da-ka-xeen Mehner, Allison Warden, and Emily Johnson. Mario Caro will serve as moderator. A question-and-answer session follows the discussion.
Noon to 1 p.m. Friday, June 26
Second in this series is a conversation about food security curated by Anchorage artist Sonya Kelliher-Combs. Visitors are welcome to observe this interdisciplinary conversation between local community members and remote participants from around the globe. A question-and-answer session follows the discussion.
