A strategic vision for the museum and the North
Last year the museum began to develop a strategic plan that would guide our vision and operations through 2020. The process was inclusive and rigorous, involving staff, volunteers, members and community.
As an anchor institution in a diverse, international city, the Anchorage Museum aspires to embody and inspire the people of Alaska and enhance its global profile while contributing to a healthy and vibrant community. Through your membership and contributions, the museum offers programs that connect people, expand perspectives, and encourage dialogue about the North and its distinct environment. The museum is already addressing these strategic goals and building momentum to fully realize them.
We know the northern environment is compelling and that the museum plays a key role in making heard the voice of the North. We want to empower voices, offer multiple perspectives, and generate ideas. We envision an active rather than a passive museum.
With this strategic plan, we consider a new model for the museum by re-envisioning “permanent” spaces and programs and what it truly means to be a multidisciplinary museum and a museum of Alaska. Join us this year and beyond as we break open the stereotypes of the North, and providing authentic experiences to best represent the people of our region. Thank you for helping us meet our mission through your membership, contributions and involvement.
