We’re using technology to make connections
Technology is changing the North and its relationship to the rest of the world. “Remote” places are now interconnected through the Internet and cloud computing. The museum’s Cloud Cover program looks at how a single critical technological innovation can have a profound effect on society, particularly on Northern lifeways. Cloud Cover programs examine how technology can help people adapt and increase human connections rather than replace them.
One way Cloud Cover is exploring how humans connect to one another is through storytelling in film. The museum’s Film School is a pilot program where museum staff partner with Anchorage schools to teach students after school with GoPro Hero cameras, Apple iMovie and other film technology. Film School encourages students to experiment with new technology while empowering them to develop visual and technical language skills and apply aesthetic concepts and storytelling to new media.
