As part of the Anchorage Museum’s Polar Lab program, we invite artists to create interventions in museum galleries and public spaces, through performances and temporary installations. March features an intervention by Anchorage artist and photographer Michael Conti. In recognition of Seward’s Day (March 30), Conti will construct and install a table hockey game in the museum’s lobby. Covered in gold and with film and photographs projected onto the surface, the installation notes the American acquisition of Alaska from Russia as well as the omission of the indigenous voices in the process. Conti often uses hockey as a theme to represent the Northern environment and the interaction between man and nature.
