Today, people talk a lot about mindfulness and happiness — ideas around being present, living in the moment, optimism and compassion. There is even a Happiness Movement.
In England, the Happy Museum Project looks at how the museum sector can respond to the challenges of creating a more sustainable future. It provides a leadership framework for museums to develop a holistic approach to well-being and sustainability. The project re-imagines the museum’s purpose as a steward of people, place and planet, supporting institutional and community well-being and resilience in the face of global challenges.
At our museum, we work to make things relevant to you, to our local community, and to our time. The museum may not cure ills, but it can provide a collective experience, time with friends and family, time for contemplation, memorable experiences, and a feeling that we are part of something bigger. It may not be a movement, but we hope to be part of making lives in Anchorage better.
