Centennial Exhibitions

June 02, 2015

The museum celebrates Anchorage’s Centennial through a series of exhibitions and programs that tell the colorful stories of our past while exploring life in the North today.

City Limits

On view through Oct. 11

From tents to towers, City Limits explores the original borders of Anchorage and its vast growth. A life-size recreation of a canvas tent, historical artifacts and archival images explore the city’s rich diversity and transformation through the decades. On display for the first time are rare maps, including a 1915 map of the Railroad Reserve at Ship Creek.

Presented by First National Bank Alaska.

Home Field Advantage: Baseball in the Far North

On view through Nov. 1

When newcomers came to the far North, they brought with them the game of baseball. In Home Field Advantage: Baseball in the Far North, visitors learn how early settlers carved fields from the wilderness, and in the process, created a sense of home within a rugged northern landscape. Over the years, these residents transformed the game into something distinctly Alaskan.
