The Anchorage museum presents an exhibition of my textile work titled Inheritance: makers. memory. myth. next spring. The catalyst for my “Inheritance Project” occurred in August 2015 when a woman from New York state sent me a mysterious box. At that time, I posted to my blog a description of the box’s contents and the afternoon my daughter and I opened it. It was read by thousands of people across the world, leading many to contact me with their own “boxes of mystery.” Thus, began a year-long crowdsourcing effort to collect and rescue abandoned, unwanted or unused vintage linens. I honor these makers, mostly unknown, by using their handwork as the raw material for my own body of textile work. Read the full blog post here.
