Mike Healy was born a slave in 1839. At age 15, he ran away to eventually become a legend of the Bering Sea patrol-"Hell Roaring Mike Healy." He represented justice in the Arctic, confronting rum-runners and charting treacherous waters. According to the New York Sun, Healy was better known in the North than the U.S. president.
