THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR COMES TO THE MUSEUM
10 a.m. to noon June 7-11
Ages 5 to 8 get inside the mind of illustrator Eric Carle (The Very Hungry Caterpillar) to find inspiration for their own art. Kids experiment with unusual materials and tools to create colorful papers and collages. Taught by art educator Nicole Cox.

UNDER THE SEA WATERCOLORS
1 to 4 p.m. June 7-11
Ages 9 to 12 touch and sketch the marine animals that live in the museum's new marine touch tank. Students learn different drawing and watercolor painting techniques. Taught by children's author/illustrator Blanca Echiverri.

PLAYFUL PUPS
10 a.m. to noon June 14-18
Ages 9 to 12 create loveable, laughable canine characters out of paper mache with artist Linda Lucky.

FISH TAILS

Ages 5 to 8 explore the museum's new marine touch tank to inspire their paper mache fish with artist Brenda Jaeger.

LITTLE ARTISTS AT PLAY
10 a.m. to noon July 12-16

All artists play and explore with a variety of art materials. Become an artist by exploring drawing, painting, ink, collage and sculpture. Build an art portfolio and fill it with amazing works of art. Taught by artist Robin Murphy.
Ages 5 to 9

WIRE, WOOD AND WHISTLES
10 a.m. to noon July 19-23
$70 member/$90 non-member

Assemble whimsical sculptures using materials such as wire, wood and whistles. Find inspiration in the museum: Observe moon jellies, waves and earthquakes in the museum’s science galleries and then try to create movement and sound in your own work. Taught by artist Kelly Hebert.

Create a 3-D, accordion-style book inspired by the museum’s animals, which include sea stars, a turtle and moon jellies. Paint and draw using acrylics, watercolors and colored pencils. Experiment with paper sculpture to create 3-D pop-ups for your book. Taught by artist Brigid Bourgue.

STORY IN ACTION
10 a.m. to noon Aug. 9-13
$70 member/$90 non-member

Listen to stories and then create your own stories, enhancing them with music, costumes and dance. Make masks and colorful, hand-painted fabrics using various artistic techniques. Taught by Portland artist Mia Pasquale and Anchorage artist Kyra Rice.

PRINTMAKING
1 to 4 p.m. July 5-9
$80 member/$100 non-member

Make relief prints using linoleum carving tools and easy-cut vinyl. Learn about single color and multiple color registration, as well as water-based block printing inks. Find inspiration during trips to the museum’s galleries. Taught by artist Brenda Jaeger.

ART BASICS
1 to 4 p.m. July 12-16

Build an art portfolio and fill it with explorations in drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. Visit the museum’s art galleries to learn about great Alaska artists and how they used different art materials in their work. Taught by artist Robin Murphy.

SUGPIAQ MASKS
1 to 3 p.m. July 19-23
$70 members/$90 non-member

Make a miniature Sugpiaq mask in the Alaska Native tradition. Seek out inspiration from the museum’s beautiful masks, and then make your own mask using materials such as wood, beads, acrylic paint and items collected in nature. Taught by Sugpiaq artist Andrew Abyo.

COVER TO COVER
1 to 3 p.m. July 26-30

The museum is an accredited cultural institution offering year round programs for children and adults. Its Art Classes are exempt from the Municipality of Anchorage child care and educational center code (under AMC 16.55.050B.8.) which states that the museum has a "recreational program that children are allowed to attend voluntarily in which the program assumes no responsibility for care of the children, and in which all children are of school age.
