Children's Gallery

OUT OF THE ORDINARY
Continues through May 11, 2008

The latest installment of the annual exhibition series for families featuring contemporary art by professional artists interpreted for young audiences presents the work of John Kirchner, a contemporary artist living and working in Washington, D.C.

Kirchner has exhibited his work nationally, creating sculptures and installations primarily from the materials everyday life. Kirchner's art is a mix of two- and three-dimensional works, as well as performance sculpture and installations using non-precious materials. Found in his art are objects of clothing, food, books, brooms, eyeglasses, newspapers, dollar bills, bottles, and chairs.

Children and parents alike will enjoy the playful hands-on art activities that accompany Kirchner's unique creations.

This yearlong exhibition will be accompanied by a full-color catalogue and a curriculum guide for classroom teachers.
