Adult Art Classes at the Museum

Let's make art at the museum!

The museum offers a variety of ways to learn about and create art. Children, teens, adults and families can explore drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and more. Museum members receive discounts on class fees.

Register for classes Jan. 1 thru Feb. 28.
Cost for each 10-week class is $165 members and $185 non-members.

Crooked Knife - Tool Making
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 4 through April 7
Join artist Jack Abraham and create a crooked knife in the old Yup'ik style. Carve red cedar to create a spear and other objects with this tool and in the process learn cultural traditions of hunting and family life. All materials provided.

Pulp, fibers, Papers - Hand-Made Paper
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 5 through April 8
Get inspired in this comprehensive class on hand-made paper with artist Natalie Chomyk-Daniels. Create incredible works of art with paper pulp. Enthusiasm is the only prerequisite. Supply list available.

Oil Painting - Self Portraits
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 6 through April 9
Artist Linda Infante Lyons will leads an exploration beyond the image in the mirror. Learn all aspects of portrait painting in oils, including facial anatomy, skin tones, volume, value, color theory and color mixing. Open to all skill levels. Supply list available.

To Skin or Not To Skin - Fish
6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11
Learn the secrets of fish skin preparation and stitching from celebrated Alaska artist Fran Reed. Watch this step-by-step demonstration and gain insight into this intricate art form. No supplies necessary. Cost for the three-hour workshop is $25 members and $30 non-members.

Figure Drawing
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 14 through April 17
Join contemporary artist Don Decker in this adult figure drawing class. Easels, drawing boards and basic supplies provided. Please bring your own paper. Open to all skill levels. Register for the entire course or drop-in for $20 per session.
