"Alaska Positive 2012"

Alaska Positive, the Alaska State Museum’s biennial photography exhibition, opens at the Anchorage Museum Jan. 21. The exhibition was juried by Portland photographer Holly Andres, whose work has been featured in The New York Times Magazine, Time and Art in America. 

Anchorage artist Loren Holmes won the Juror’s Choice Award for his image Butchering the Whale

Ben Huff and Deanna Lampe, both of Juneau, and were given Awards of Recognition. Andres also named three Honorable Mentions: Holmes, Douglas Yates, Ester, and Clark James Mishler, Anchorage. 

“Every submission to Alaska Positive 2012 reflects pride in the state’s unique culture, industry and landscape,” Andres said. “The judging process gave me a whole new appreciation for the contemporary Alaska experience.” 

Alaska Positive 2012 debuted in November at the Alaska State Museum in Juneau. After the exhibition closes in Anchorage it will travel around the state.
