Objects that are seemingly mundane or inconsequential become art in this series of works, created exclusively for the Children's Gallery exhibition by John Kirchner, a contemporary artist living and working near Washington, D.C. Kirchner has exhibited his work nationally, creating sculptures and installations primarily from the materials of everyday life.
Kirchner has exhibited his work nationally, creating sculptures and installations primarily from the materials everyday life. Kirchner's art is a mix of two- and three-dimensional works, as well as performance sculpture and installations using non-precious materials. Found in his art are objects of clothing, food, books, brooms, eyeglasses, newspapers, dollar bills, bottles, and chairs.
Children and parents alike will enjoy the playful hands-on art activities that accompany Kirchner's unique creations.
This yearlong exhibition will be accompanied by a full-color catalogue and a curriculum guide for classroom teachers.
