"The opportunity to see first-rate exhibitions from out of state is essential to any community of artists." - David J. Woodie, artist
The mission of the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center is:
- To collect, preserve, exhibit and interpret materials that illustrate the art, history and science of Alaska and the circumpolar north
- To maintain an active and diverse exhibition program that acquaints the community with the global spectrum of human artistic, cultural and scientific expression
- To provide a major cultural center for Anchorage where the community and its visitors meet, create, learn and participate in the museum programs and activities
- To stimulate the activities of a creative population of artists, historians, anthropologists and other allied professionals
The expanded museum will also expand its mission to include science - a natural evolution in a land whose art, history and culture is deeply informed by environment.
