Based in London and Berlin, David Chipperfield Architects was selected from 38 architects who submitted credentials to the Museum Building Committee.

Chipperfield's architectural accomplishments include the design of the Ansaldo "City of Cultures" in Milan, Italy; the Figge Arts Center in Davenport, Iowa; the Literature Museum, Marbach am Neckar, Germany; the Neues Museum in Berlin and the Public Library of Des Moines, Iowa.
