First Friday

The first Friday of each month enjoy free general admission from 6 to 9 p.m., as well as gallery talks by noted artists. Grab a cocktail at Muse and soak in some live, local music.

Yes, Alaska really has a desert. Hydrogeologist Cynthia Dinwiddie discusses the desert above the Arctic Circle in Alaska’s Kobuk Valley National Park, one of the country’s least-visited national parks. She explains why she conducts Mars-related research at the Kobuk sand dunes, and what that research tells us about the Martian environment. Dinwiddie works at the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas. This event is held in conjunction with the exhibition Arctic Desert. Free
 

 
Mystery Photo Night

Take a trip down memory lane and contribute to Alaska’s historical record. The Anchorage Museum needs assistance identifying mystery images in its historical photography collection. See if you can help identify the people and places in these archival images. The selection includes hundreds of photos taken in the Anchorage area and in Alaska villages from 1900-90. Free
