The Museum organizes a Solo Artist Exhibit program, through which Alaska artists are invited to submit a series of slides of their work for review by a selection committee. This committee then meets to select artists for solo exhibitions at the Museum over the next two to three years. This is a very competitive program, as the Museum can offer 3 or 4 exhibits a year to solo artists for the approximately 100 that apply. Once artists have been selected and scheduled for Solo Exhibits, the Museum produces a full-color brochure/catalog for each artist and assists the artist with freight and mailing costs. Solo Artist Exhibits are open to Alaska artists only.
The All Alaska Juried Statewide Art Exhibition occurs every other year, alternating with the Earth, Fire and Fibre: The Biennial Alaska Juried Craft Exhibition. The All Alaska Juried Statewide Art Exhibition is juried by a well-known museum director, curator, artist or critic from a nationally recognized institution. These jurors visit Alaska to look at the work and also give free public slide lectures. Once the exhibit is chosen, it is on view at the Anchorage Museum during the months of January, February and March, and then begins a year-long tour to museums in different communities around the state. The exhibition is accompanied by a full color catalog. Substantial prize money is awarded to artists, including a $1,000 "best of show" award. All Alaska Juried Statewide Art Exhibition is open to Alaska artists only.
Earth, Fire and Fibre: The Biennial Alaska Juried Craft Exhibition, occurs every other year, alternating with the All Alaska Juried Statewide Art Exhibition. The Museum also invites a prestigious juror to Alaska to jury this show and offers awards and the opportunity for the work to be viewed statewide. Earth, Fire and Fibre Exhibition is open to Alaska artists only.
