Digital Photography
July 7 through 11

Join Carl Battreall to learn about the basic concepts of digital photography, as well as the ins and outs of the digital process. Digital camera required.

Clay Sculpture
July 14 through 18

Art educator Brenda Jaeger teaches traditional clay sculpting techniques. Explore the works of artists Rodin, Picasso, Matisse and Degas-and sculpt your own forms.

Lampwork, Beadmaking and Jewelry
July 21 through 25
$150 members, $170 non-members

Learn to use a torch to make glass beads. Create a variety of projects with lamp worked beads and glass fusing. Artist Robin Murphy will share her personal creations and years of experience.

Oil Painting with Color
Aug. 4 through 8

Linda Infante-Lyons teaches color theory and mixing colors with oil paints and how to compose and complete a colorful, balanced and vibrant painting. Workshop open to all levels. Intermediate and advanced students will work on developing their personal palette and color style.

New Images for the North

Join Kyra Rice, a young and upcoming Alaskan photographer currently living in France, to learn how she reveals stories and ideas in new ways. This class will investigate the narrative and metaphorical qualities of photography exploring the use of text, collage, digital and experimental materials.

Anchorage Art Adventures
Learn about art at the museum and create your own art inspired by Anchorage's many trails in these fun and interesting art adventures offered in conjunction with the Municipality of Anchorage Dept. of Parks and Recreation

Express your own unique perspective of Anchorage through collage. Be inspired by urban art and art depicting life in Alaska at an evening lecture on July 17 at the museum. Then, create a collage of an urban scene on a guided walk through Anchorage led by artist Jody Jenkins and recreation specialist Ronn Randall. Supply list provided at July 17 lecture. Learn about artist-adventurers Bradford Washburn and George Browne who climbed Denali photographing and painting as they went along. Museum collections director Walter VanHorn shares stories of these and other plein air artists at an evening lecture Aug. 8. Next, adopt a pioneer artist's perspective on a guided hike led by recreation specialist Ronn Randall and artist Jody Jenkins, taking you to primitive settings that will inspire you to draw or paint what the pioneers themselves may have seen. Participants provide own transportation, equipment, and supplies (must be easily carried). Supply list available at Aug. 8 lecture. Class size is limited.
