Gisela Murdough was named Volunteer of the Year at the museum’s annual volunteer appreciation lunch in May.
Murdough has volunteered in the Museum Shop for 18 years. Before she retired, she worked in retail, so the museum benefits from her expertise and professionalism.
Shop Manager Mark Weber said Murdough is upbeat, dependable and unflappable in the face of busloads of summer visitors and a bustling shop.
Also at the luncheon, a Special Service Award was bestowed upon a group known in the Atwood Resource Center as the Wednesday Volunteers: Louise Bremner, George Darrow, Opal Myers, Stephanie Neal, Doris Rhodes and Pam Tanora.
This long-standing group has consistently worked one day a week in the museum’s library and archives, primarily processing collections. All the team’s members have backgrounds in Alaska history and make significant contributions to the museum’s resources.
Thank you to all our volunteers for your valuable services.
